          General Community Development Issues

 The Community Based services sector is one of the major sectors in the district and is composed of; 1- ) Probation Youth, Children and Social welfare 2- ) Gender, Culture and Community Development 3- ) Disability and Elderly and 4- ) Labour and Industrial Relations

 

The Directorate contributes to the overall district mission through promotion of social development, which involves positive transformation of beliefs, knowledge, attitudes and practices of people within households, communities and groups. Performance indicators for gender and community development are presented in Table 8.1.

Community Projects

 

Over 254 self-initiated, NGO and Government supported community projects are being implemented in the district as detailed below:

 

  • MUDIPU save programme supports 54 PWD groups;
  • Government’s PWDs special Grant has so far supported 32 PWDs groups;
    • Uganda Entrepreneurship programme (UWEP) has supported 14 women groups with financial capital;
    • Youth livelihood programme (YLP) has so far supported 53 youth groups with financial capital and this has enabled them to start assorted projects;
    • Sibanga –Butta community development Project has supported over 100 self help groups with financial literacy and Community based trainings; and
    • Swiss Contact is supporting 5 groups with Economic strengthening skills trainings.
